Where can I take the British Citizenship Test (Life in the UK Test)?

You will need contact the Test centre during opening hours by telephone or in person.


When are test centres open?

The opening times for test centre may vary from one site to another, you can call your local test centre to check their opening times, and when the tests are run.


How much will the British Citizenship Test (Life in the UK Test) cost and how do I pay for it?

The cost for taking the British Citizenship Test (Life in the UK Test) is £34. The fee will have to be paid at the before taking the test. Your local test centre can provide you information on accepted payment methods.


How do I cancel or postpone a test?

If for any reason you test need to be cancelled or delayed you will have to inform you test centre. At some test centres there may be a charge.


Are there any identification requirements?

Yes, you should check with your local test centre what they require from you, in general you will need to bring:

  • A photographic ID

    You MUST also bring one of the following forms of ID (All documents must be valid):

  • A passport (from your country of origin)

  • A UK photocard driving licence, full or provisional

  • One of the following Home Office travel documents:
     

    • A Convention Travel Document (CTD),

    • A Certificate of Identity Document (CID) or a Stateless Person Document (SPD)

    • An Immigration Status Document, endorsed with a UK Residence Permit and bearing a photo of the holder
       

  • A passport-sized photograph of yourself. The photograph should be signed on the back by a professional such as a doctor, minister of religion or teacher who is known to you. Your test supervisor will also sign your photograph and return it to you after your test, attached to your pass notification letter. You need to send both along with your citizenship application to the Home Office.

You will also be asked for your postcode at the test centre, so you may wish to bring along something that contains this information, like a utility bill.


Do test centres cater for disability needs?

Your local test centre can provide the test in a format that meets your need, you will need to let the test centre know about your needs at the time of booking the test. Please go through the Prepare for the test section on this site.


How do I find out about the facilities test centres have?

You can call your test centre to enquire with regards the test centre facilities like parking etc. The Find a test centre section will have information on this.


I'm new to computers. Is the British Citizenship Test (Life in the UK Test)test available in other formats?

The British Citizenship Test (Life in the UK Test) is only available on computer, you can visit the Prepare for the Test section on this site to get a better understanding on what you need to know.

UK online centres aim to provide everyone in England with access to computers near to where they live, as well as advice on using them. Call UK online on 0800 77 1234 to find your nearest centre or search for a centre online. If you live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, most local libraries offer free or low-cost computer and internet access
